UP steam crew starting pit work Saturday

LOS ANGELES – Union Pacific Big Boy No. 4014 is headed to the pits – for inspection. Ed Dickens, UP's senior manager for heritage operations, tells Trains News Wire that the 4-8-8-4 steam locomotive is scheduled to move over a maintenance and inspection pit on Saturday. Union Pacific confirms departure of unnamed third party from Big Boy project

CHEYENNE, Wyo. — Union Pacific has confirmed that the company is doing the restoration of Big Boy No. 4014 itself and that a third party is no longer involved. Big Boy 4014 will move east in April

DENVER – In a speech at the Rocky Mountain Toy Train Show in Denver March 1, Union Pacific Senior Manager of Heritage Operations Ed Dickens said Big Boy steam locomotive No. 4014 would complete its 1,293-mile move from California to Cheyenne, Wyo., in April. Dickens said while he would have preferred to make the move earlier, the delay was caused by winter weather.
