UP confirms Big Boy travel dates to Cheyenne, will depart Colton April 28

LOS ANGELES — Union Pacific has confirmed that 4-8-8-4 Big Boy No. 4014 will depart its West Colton Yard on April 28 at 8 a.m. A total of 27 stops are planned on the 11-day trek to Cheyenne, including all-day displays in Las Vegas, Salt Lake City, and Ogden. UP steam crew starting pit work Saturday

LOS ANGELES – Union Pacific Big Boy No. 4014 is headed to the pits – for inspection. Ed Dickens, UP's senior manager for heritage operations, tells Trains News Wire that the 4-8-8-4 steam locomotive is scheduled to move over a maintenance and inspection pit on Saturday. The locomotive will return to an available pit several days during the next week for a tune-up, of sorts, at the railroad’s yard and shops in West Colton.
